Good news & a Good Cause

First of all, please take a minute to go visit Jen and congratulate her on her new and very cute arrival from Korea! You've got to see those cheeks!!

Then go and see Amy & Aj, and their gorgeous new Indian jewel. Just precious!!

Second, our fellow blogger Michelle has taken up a very good cause, and as I feel very strongly about the issue too, I decided to post it here as well.

Michelle has noticed that many stores have baby registries that do not accomodate for the arrival of adopted children. Would it be so hard for stores to celebrate the adoption process and whole heartedly as they do biological births (especially considering we are far less annoying)?? Why couldn't it say "Date of Arrival" instead of Due Date? Why can't there be a place to enter the actual age of the child, since many of us adopt toddler age children? It seems such a small thing to do to please a large (and growing) number of people.

If you agree, please take a moment and send a note to one of the retailers below. Let us know if there are others that should be added.

Hope you all had a lovely Father's Day. We spent time with both of our Dad's yesterday. I couldn't help wondering if DH is a father and we don't know it yet...our child could conceivably be born by now. We didn't talk about it though...it seems we're on the same page as far as enjoying the last bits of freedom we know we have....

In other news, we got our fingerprinting appointment this weekend...we go on June 28th! I get the shakes just thinking about it. I know I have to start planning for this kid but if I think too much I start getting heart palpitations!

Thanks for the reminder. I was planning on writing to address this issue. I hope you don't mind that I used your words in my complaint letters to Target and Babies R Us. I wrote:

Being a pre-adoptive parent I wanted to add my voice to this cause:

I never even thought about the registry thing before, but it really is alienating, isn't it? I already composed and sent a letter to Target (one of my fav stores). Are you doing electronic fingerprinting or the old fashioned way? That is exciting that you are one step closer in the process..

I just deleted my comment - because here is the letter I penned to Target.

Dear Target,

My family and I love Target. We find everything we need within our means and the staff has been very accomidating. I want to also commend Target on how much they contribute to local communities. It is a business model to be encouraged.

My email today pertains to the sensitivity of Adoption Families. I have a biological son and I never thought twice about baby registries. I registered, received gifts and moved on. Now we are adopting a baby from Korea. We are so excited.

My friends and I in the adoptive parent community wanted to raise some awareness about making registries more adoptive family friendly. We often adopt children older than newborns and would like registries to reflect the diversity.

We know that it doesn't sound like a big deal on the corporate side, but in the end it is a win-win situation. We feel confident that a store (such as Target) embraces all types of families and we then want to turn more of our registry if not all over to your store.

Our adoption is very costly and people ask how can they help. Even if the registry can have open ended areas - for example - 5 short sleeve shirts for a 2 year old boy.

Thank you for your time.
