Don't Kill Me...

We didn’t book the trip.

Now before you get your panties in a bunch about it (no need to rush back to smack me Elle, sheesh such violence, no wonder your house got egged) it wasn’t because of the adoption. We were ---> <---- this close to booking, but then we all decided (all but my brother who is now less than happy with us) that it was too much of a hassle for what to amounted to only three days of whirlwind sightseeing. We would have been spending almost as much time in airplanes as on the ground, and all that running around (in the freezing cold) would not have been much of a vacation. And besides, it was over Thanksgiving weekend. And everyone knows that Thanksgiving is all about sitting inside a warm house eating too much food and listening to the same old corny jokes and stories told by your crazy aunts and uncles. Especially for us Italian Americans. It is an EVENT people. And if the baby is home by then…oh man I can’t even think about all the commotion that will be going on.

But I REALLY appreciate you all encouraging me to go. I was pretty surprised that most of you didn’t tell me I was nuts. Although maybe it was like watching one of those “Outrageous Videos” shows…you know while you’re watching the guy falling out of the plane that he’s going to go splat, but you just can’t drag your eyes away from the tv. You wanted to see what would happen if I went…didntcha…admit it. You wanted a human guinea pig for Murphy’s Law. I know, it’s okay. I may plan a shorter, more local, warmer beachier getaway soon. I’ll let you know.

So it’s really soggy here on the east coast thanks to Senor Ernesto. The Labor Day weekend looks like it’s going to be a complete washout. Oh well, we didn’t have anything grand planned anyway (My husband said “It’s going to be crappy, you can knit” YAY!). I would like to buy a crib though. We went looking around a bit this weekend and definitely figured out what we didn’t like, that’s for sure. I like the ones that are stationary, without the drop down gate in the front. Is that crazy? Am I going to be sorry about that? Like this one for example. We looked at the cribs and then went to look at strollers and carseats, freaked out and left. Too many choices. But at least I was able to go into the stores without hyperventilating which is a major accomplishment for me. Oh, and theme of the week is Mermaids if it’s a girl. I’ve been dreaming about them.

Happy Labor Day Peeps. I know it will be grand for one Miss Elle who is the final stages of bringing that Pickle boy home! Woo Hoo!

My crib isn't stationary but has a drop down side that you can't tell is a drop down side. All the mechanisms are hidden and you just push it in and it slides down. that may be a good option to look for. I think the crib you like is really nice.

And, buy the carseat online, much cheaper if you can get onsale and lastly, I love the mermaid idea!!!

have a nice rainy weekend.

I like the crib - it looks a lot like the one we are looking at. I've also been wondering about the kind with no drop down and wondering if I would be sorry later. Curious to hear what others say.

Carseats and strollers stress me out. Too many choices. I think we have strollers narrowed down to 2 but car seats are more than I can handle yet.

I've always imagined you will adopt a baby girl. Don't know why...but that's always been what is in my head for you. Mermaids would be very cute!

No opinions on the cribs here. I wouldn't know one from the other. But I think the mermaid idea... that could be really cute!

The beach idea sounds nice and relaxing. Do it soon for your sanity. I like the look of the crib, but it might take a toll on your back. Check online prices like Jenny said.

I like the mermaid idea. With the Little Mermaid coming to DVD in October you will have plenty of options.

And your trip, you probably made the right decision. As you said you would only have 3 days and let's face it with the jet lag you would have it wouldn't have been very fun anyway.

Love the crib... mermaids is a cute & original theme... I can see a painted mural on the wall already, you can do it is soft beacy colors or vibrant jewel hues..... bring on the nursery decorating... and dont forget pics

The mermaid theme is a new one for me too - very cute!! I dig that it was inspired by a dream as well.

We bought a crib without a dropdown side because it was a convertible. They are very popular now, so I can't imagine it's too terrible.

We bought our crib last weekend. A convertible crib (crib to toddler bed to day bed to full size bed). No drop down side. I didn't like any cribs with a drop down side when I tried them out.

Car seats and strollers freaked me out too. It took several trips for me to be able to even pick one up to try it out. We did register for a travel system finally, but it took quite a bit of time to decide.

After feeling extremely overwhelmed with all the choices out there, I came to the conclusion that it all doesn't really matter. As long as the baby is safe, healthy, and happy, the rest is just gravy.

You actually took the course I would have taken--I just assumed there was something wrong with me... I love my quiet family time! As for the crib? Make sure the slats aren't too far apart, but otherwise? My stationary crib actually broke so we COULDN'T drop the sides before the cave troll was even born... it's seeing us through our second child just fine, and I'm old, fat, and lazy--you'll do fine.

I hope that everything continues to move along well for you. My wife and I actually received our referral last night for a 6 month old girl in Bogota! You never know when it is going to happen for you so get ready and enjoy when it happens.
We will hopefully be travelling to Colombia in the next few weeks to be united with our daughter.

Good Luck!
